Art and Craft

Bhutan is known for handicraft items in bronze, silver and other metals. Sculpting of religious figures is widely practiced and every temple houses large brightly painted and gilded statues of the Buddha and other saints.

Touring in Bhutan, you can see many interesting cultures, Arts & Crafts, ceremonies & Events. Art interlaced with Buddhist values. Basic social & culture values drawing their essence from religious teachings.

Dzongs or fortresses were built in important places to protect the country from invasions. Each dzong has a rich historical background which our guides will be happy to narrate during your visit. These are built of stone and enclose a courtyard. The architecture of the dzongs are oblong in structure gently tapering from the foundation to the roof for the purposes of defence and aesthetics. The windows at the lower levels are small and modest while the higher floors have more larger and more ornamented windows.

Amongst the numerous dzongs, the Punakha Dzong is one of the most important ones. It is here that the Coronation of the Kings of Bhutan first takes place.

Although many a dzong has been destroyed in fires, Bhutan still has many century old dzongs still in tack. Today they house government offices.
