Glimpse of Bhutan (4 Nights/5 days)

Day 1 – Paro/Thimphu. (1 hr.)

You will be received at the Airport. Drive to Thimphu visit the following places and the best way to see Thimphu is wander along the main street, turning into lanes. (all within the walking distances:)

1. Handicrafts Emporium/Shopping
2. National Library - It contains Bhutan’s history in the form of religious & historical literature. Most of the books here are about Buddhism & Himalayan History. You will also find the worlds largest book here.
3. SAARC Building - This is a replica of Tashichho Dzong built in 1990s to provide a venue for a meeting of the heads of state and government from the South Asian Association for Regional C-operation (SAARC). The National Assembly located in this building. Nearby is the Royal Banquet Hall.
4. National Memorial Chorten - This is a large Tibetan - style chorten, built in 1974 to honour the memory of the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk.
5. Tashichhodzong - Fotress of the glorious religion, this Dzong was built in 1641 by the Shabdrung. The Dzongs architecture is said to have inspired the architect who based his construction of the university of El Paso in Texas on this model. It houses the throne room of his Majesty the King, the main Secretariat building & the Central Monk Body. Its courtyard is open to visitors during Thimphu Tshechu & when the monk body moves to its winter residence in Punakha.


Day 2 – Thimphu/Punakha (3 hrs)

Morning visit the rest of the places in Thimphu.

1. Traditional Institute of Medicine - Established in 1988, one of the most interesting facilities in Thimphu. The production of medicines is directed entirely towards the needs of the Bhutanese, though there is a plan to eventually export traditional medicines.
2. School of Traditional Paintings - Known as ‘Zorig Chusum’ in Bhutanese, operates under the auspices of the National Technical Training Institute and offers a six year course that privides instruction in many of Bhutan’s traditional arts to students from throughout the country whose aptitude is more artistic than academic.
3. Weekend Market - If you have programmed it to visit Thimphu on Saturday/Sunday then you will be able to see the weekend market.

Afternoon drive to Punakha, The drive from Thimphu to Punakha is the most enjoyable one. First you come across the Dochula pass from where a beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range can be seen, specially on a clear winter days. The beauty of this place is further enhanced by the Druk Wangyal Chortens – a 108 stupas built by the eldest Queen. Then we descend to a warm climate. All through your journey you will come across many traditional farm houses and farming taking place. At Punakha check in the hotel and from your hotel you can have a nice view of the valley.

Day 3 – Punakha/Paro (3 hrs. )

In Punakha visit the Punakha Dzong, considered one of the most beautiful Dzong of all. It is worth visiting. In the afternoon on our way back to Paro we will take a gentle hike to Chhimi Lhakhang from where you can also see the beautiful valley of Punakha. Then we will drive back to Paro.

Day 4 - Paro
At Paro visit the National Museum known as ‘Ta Dzong’ built as watch tower but now turned into a Museum. Then if you are not tired visit Kichu Monastery also, one of the most sacred and the oldest temple in Bhutan. Overnight in Paro.

Day 5 - Departure

We will see you off wishing you a safe journey back home.
